Opportunity Austin continues its active engagement in improving public safety, a vital pillar of our quality-of-life efforts. We’ve made considerable progress by supporting the new police chief, advocating for a sustainable police budget, and leading efforts to support the approval of the new police contract. It is time to Move Forward and we are launching a multifaceted campaign to further drive support for these initiatives.
What has happened so far?
- Supported the hiring of the new Police Chief: We will work with Chief Davis to understand key challenges, including staffing shortages and resource needs.
- Police Budget Advocacy: Opportunity Austin has been a leading advocate in ensuring the police budget reflects the department’s needs, emphasizing the importance of filling vacancies and improving officer training.
